Raymond R. Lee was born on May 1st, 1955 in San Francisco, California. the first child of Roy and Helen Lee. He spent his formative years growing up in Oakland, where he attended John Swett Elementary School and Bret Harte Middle School. After his family relocated to San Diego, Raymond attended Patrick Henry High School, from which he graduated in 1972. He enrolled at Claremont Men’s College (now Claremont McKenna College) graduating in just three years with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1975.
After working as a manager in the finance industry, Raymond enrolled at the California Western Law School in San Diego. He received his Juris Doctor degree from there in 1978. Raymond joined the San Diego law firm of Suppa, Trucchi & Henein, in 1990, where he specialized in creditor’s rights, real estate and bankruptcy. Ray, as he was known to his colleagues, enjoyed being in court and was effective in advocating for his clients.
Raymond was a renaissance person with many diverse interests. He traveled widely, including trips to New York, London and Paris. His travels complemented his interest in history and theater. A fan of thoroughbred horse racing, Raymond twice attended the Royal Ascot in the United Kingdom. He was also an amateur horticulturist who was fascinated with propagating plant breeds in his backyard garden.
Thoughtful, well read, and cultured, Raymond was always thinking of others despite his outwardly reserved demeanor. When friends came to visit, he would go out of his way to research the interests and desires of his guests, and then go to great lengths to ensure they had the perfect visit.
Raymond was committed to giving back to his family and his community. He ensured his niece Lauren and nephew Brandon had every opportunity to be exposed to the theatre and other cultural experiences that he enjoyed so much. Apart from his work at Suppa, Trucchi & Henein, he also gave back to people by providing pro bono legal assistance to numerous people and organizations.
Raymond will be remembered as an accomplished attorney, engaged member of the community, faithful friend to many, and someone who was devoted to his family.
