At 69 years old, Renato Nicolas passed away peacefully on the morning of the 20th of February 2024. He did his best to be present for everyone while living with colon cancer for over two years. Renato was born in August 1954 in the Philippines to Leoncio and Rosalina Nicolas. He grew up with seven siblings along with many cousins. Renato enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating college and immigrated to the United States where he met the love of his life, Dionisia Nicolas. They moved from Texas and settled in San Diego where he served the rest of his brief enlistment and then worked full time as an electrical engineer. He joined the National Guard where he served another 6 years on reserve and eventually retired early to support his children in their endeavors. He watched his children grow families of their own and became a proud and doting grandfather, attending their sports events, and school events and having weekly lunches.
A celebration of life will be held on March 14, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 9:00 am with a reception to follow. The burial and grave site service will take place at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley at 1:00 pm. Renato will be remembered for his enduring passion for making others happy, his kind and compassionate nature, his love for his family, and his passion for reading. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
