Richard Lee Clemons passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 4th, 2023. He is survived by his wife Dolores; his children Nathan (Misty) Clemons, Cira Morey, and Delia (Nick) Inzunza; and his sister Cynthea. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Lucy, Fisher, Brixton, Sawyer, Isela, and Nico. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Virginia Clemons; his brother Duff; and his grandson Rowan Alexander Morey.
Richard Lee Clemons was born on beautiful Oahu in Hawaii on June 25th 1947 to the late William DuffIe Clemons and Virginia Lee Clemons. He was sandwiched between older brother Wendell Duffie Clemons and little sister Cynthea Leilani Brown. Duffie and Virginia moved their family from coast to coast, thanks to his Dad’s career as a US Marine, and they finally settled in San Diego.
Dick went to Kearny High School, where he met the love of his life in 1963. Dick and Dolores both graduated from Kearny in 1965; he attended Mesa College for two years and they were married in 1968. Then they moved to Tempe, AZ where he attended Arizona State University. Dick studied (and partied) hard and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 1972. After graduation, they moved back to San Diego. They enjoyed 6 fun years of marriage before having kids: Nathan Jeffrey in 1974, Cira in 1977 and Delia in 1980.
Dickie was a soccer dad, a baseball dad, and a dance dad. He was a coach, a wedding officiant, a chauffeur, and the biggest Raider fan you could ever meet. He was a huge history buff and was full of random facts and useless information. He loved all things Shelby Cobra. He adored his grandchildren and was thoroughly entertained by their antics. He loved walking on the beach and reading mystery novels. He was sarcastic, dry and hilarious.
Dickie was a kid at heart; he loved having a good time and making people laugh – that always came so naturally to him. He leaves behind a million wonderful memories and more than a few broken hearts. He will be missed by so many.
“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.”
