Robert Joseph Balzer

Robert Balzer, age 82, of San Diego, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. Born in Ohio, Robert lived a life filled with achievement, love, and a passion for adventure. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected professional, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert was a devoted husband to his wife Kelly Balzer, and together they shared a beautiful life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was the proud father of three sons, Mike, Rich and Jeff and cherished grandfather to five grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Professionally, Robert was a distinguished Vice President at Duty Free Shoppers, Honolulu, Hawaii where he made a significant impact during his many years with the company. He was known for his exceptional skills as a Famolare national salesman, building lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike. Robert’s hard work, dedication, and integrity were a testament to his character, and he was admired by those fortunate enough to work with him.

Outside of his professional life, Robert had a deep love for animals. His admiration for wildlife was reflected in his lifelong support of animal conservation efforts, including his contributions to the San Diego Zoo. In honor of his legacy, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the San Diego Zoo, a cause dear to his heart.

Robert was also an avid skier and treasured the time he spent on the slopes with his children, creating memories that will last forever. A lover of fine scotch, Robert enjoyed quiet evenings spent with close family and friends, savoring both the drink and the company of those he loved.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and a life well-lived. Robert will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his passion for animals, and the joy he found in both adventure and quiet moments of reflection.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in October, date to be determined in San Diego, Ca where friends and family are invited to celebrate Robert’s remarkable life. In keeping with his wishes, donations may be made to the San Diego Zoo or San Diego Humane Society in his memory.

Robert’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will forever be missed.
