Born on February 23, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Romero made his home in Dulzura, California, where he built a life defined by service, strength, and unwavering dedication to others. Known as “Priest” to some and “Cowboy” to others, Romero lived with purpose, passion, and an unmistakable presence.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Annette Crawford; his children: Romero, Travis, Michael, January, and Lousia; and his cherished grandchildren: Travis, RJ, Wesley, Sal, and Luca. Romero was also a proud and loving father figure to 23 foster children, whom he raised with care, patience, and a guiding hand. His legacy lives on through all of them.
Romero served his country honorably as a Navy SEAL (Frogman) and a Deep Sea Diver, earning a National Defense Service Medal for his service. After his military career, he continued to serve others as a mentor to youth, raising over 20 foster children and touching countless lives with his strength and guidance.
He was a man of big ideas and bold vision — among his many dreams, he hoped to one day run for President, believing that true leadership came from lived experience, courage, and a love for people over politics.
A true renaissance man, Romero enjoyed playing dominos, beating the conga drums, fishing, drinking beer with friends, skydiving, writing, coaching youth, and tending to “The Ranch.” He lived by the code he spoke — no excuses, no shortcuts — just action, integrity, and heart.
A devout Christian, Romero attended Son Light Church, where his faith was lived out through service, humility, and unwavering belief in second chances.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at El Cajon Mortuary, followed by burial at Miramar National Cemetery.
He often said:
“The only easy day was yesterday.”
“Second place is the first loser.”
“KISS: Keep it simple, stupid.”
“Get busy or get ghost.”
“SUCK EGGS.”
“Things aren’t always the way they could be, should be, might be, would be, but they are in fact the way they are — and they are subject to change, and they will.”
Romero Autro Crawford was many things — a warrior, a mentor, a father, a dreamer, and a friend — but above all, he was unapologetically himself. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and unforgettable stories. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
