Stephen Anthony Nave, 54, passed away on March 18, 2016. He was the adored husband of Agrippina (“Pinita”) Maberry-Nave. They shared nine wonderful years together. Born in San Francisco, California, he was the son of Robin P. Nave and Linda N. Nave-Corino (Scatena). He graduated from Redwood High School in Larkspur, California and briefly attended the College of Marin where he played on their football team. Steve served 23 years in the U.S. Navy, with 18 as a Navy SEAL. He was also a Navy SEAL Instructor in the Naval Special Warfare Physical Training Center in Coronado, California and trained the men in BUD/S who would go on to become SEALs. Steve understood what it meant to take people to the edge and beyond, testing their physical strength and endurance, as well as increasing their mental toughness. Based out of his unique training facility, Combat Athlete Training Systems (CATS), he traveled globally, conducting education, certifications, and training using his unique tools and training methodologies. Concurrent to his physical training and coaching, he worked protecting the oceans commercial vessels from piracy threats across most of the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Red Sea. A truly multi-faceted man, Steve’s philosophy was simple: “You must believe that winning/goal attainment/mission accomplishment is possible. As long as you truly believe that you can reach your goals and objectives, you will. That belief in yourself and abilities is real. Tangible. It’s that belief that creates the passion that will drive you to willingly pay the price for your success.” Steve will always be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and loyalty. But most importantly, his ability to bring out the best in people. Steve is survived by his wife Pinita Maberry-Nave; Linda Nave-Corino, his mother; Michele Corino his step-father; step-brothers: Jeffrey Corino and his wife, Linda; Glenn Corino; and Mark Corino, and his sons Nicholas and Jacob; uncle Gino Scatena and wife, Carol; uncle Raymond Isola and wife Susan Lyons; cousin Michael Scatena, his wife Tiffany, sons Devon and Luca; and cousin Chris Scatena, his wife Melissa, and children Olivia and Brady; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robin Nave. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church, 4355 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego, CA 92130.
