Teresita was the fourth child out of a family of twelve siblings of Guadalupe and Pablo Decena. She graduated from nursing school in San Juan De Dios Hospital in the Philippines. She came to the USA via a nursing exchange program with her classmates. She first worked in Chicago and later in Montreal, Canada. She met her future husband in Pensacola, Florida visiting her fellow classmates. She got married on November 19, 1968 in Montreal. She left Montreal to join her husband Neil in Pensacola, Florida where he was stationed in the US Navy. They both moved to San Diego soon after and lived there since 1970. They were married for fifty-seven years and have two sons, Roland and Jun. Tessie retired from UC San Diego Hospital and worked there for twenty-seven years in postpartum taking care of mothers and their newborn babies. She has helped her relatives to become nurses as well. Both Tessie and Neil enjoyed trips to the US National Parks and have traveled to many places such as Europe, China, Guatemala and most notably to the Holy Land. When not traveling they enjoy participating in singing with their fellow choir members at Holy Family Church and enjoying their company for lunch after mass. Tessie will be missed dearly by all who know her. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, nurse, co-worker, dear friend, auntie, and grandma.
