In 1964 he married the love of his life and best friend, Shirley. They eventually settled in Vista Del Cerro, where they raised their family and lived for the past 40 years. Tom is also survived by his daughter Lisa Hall, son James Hall (Carmen), and three grandchildren, Tyler, Jesse and Savannah. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Pearl Hall, and his brother, James Hall Jr. Tom will be remembered first and foremost as a loving husband, father, and friend.
His accomplishments were many, but most remembered for his devotion to Law Enforcement. He was employed by the San Diego Police Department for 32 years, retiring at the rank of Police Captain. He was then employed by the San Diego Unified School District Police Services, and retired after eight years as their Chief of Police.
Tom was well known in the tennis community, spending most of his childhood playing tennis at Morley Field, and later in life he participated in the State Police Olympics, and International World Police- Fire Games, winning several gold medals. He was also very involved in his children's lives, coaching many youth sports in the community. Nearing retirement, Tom developed a passion for the game of golf. He was the proud leader, also known as "The Lizzard Commish" of the SDPD Desert Lizzards.
Tom and family are members of Shadow Mountain Community Church, where he attended church services, and lead a Men's Bible Study Group. Tom never lost sight of his faith, and considered himself a "spiritual warrior". We know now he is in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. The family would like to greatly thank all their many friends, and medical staff at UCSD Moores Cancer Center for their incredible love, support and care during his illness.
