Valerie (Val) was born on June (appropriately) 22, 1937 in Saskatchewan, Canada. The daughter of Frank Love and Olive Halliday. Val's father Frank, was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and also served 8 years with the Canadian Army in Europe. Val's mother was a lovely lady and a caring homemaker during Frank's absence.
Val and her father and mother moved to San Diego when she was 14 years of age and she graduated from La Jolla High School in 1953. During her tenure at La Jolla, she performed as the school's drum majorette. After a brief marriage and subsequent divorce, she and son Mike lived in Pacific Beach, where she eventually met Cal Montgomery, also living in P.B. After his first marriage that also ended in divorce, Val and Cal married in 1961 and ended up moving to a home in Clairemont in 1962, remaining in San Diego.
In 1972, Val re-entered the workforce as an administrative secretary for the San Diego City Schools at The Education Center on Park Blvd., carpooling in her 1968 Camaro. She retired after 30 years of service to a huge retirement party at the Kona Kai Resort, proclaiming her the "GOLDEN GIRL". Val loved jewelry- especially gold. She also loved to travel, taking Cal with her to places all over the world. The world will certainly miss her.
Remaining to cherish Val's memory is husband Cal. Preceding her in death is son Mike and grandson Mikey. Memories of Val will forever remain in our hearts.
