

Warren Roger “Griz” Erwin, age 83, died July 30, 2025. He was born January 8, 1942, in San Diego, CA. He was the second child born to Noble & Hazel (Ralph) Erwin, who preceded him in death.
He graduated from Crawford High School in June 1960.
In March 1964, he married Leah Bartlett, who died in 1969.
Warren was drafted into the Army in October 1964 and stationed in Vietnam and Hawaii, until his discharge in August 1966. Upon returning home to San Diego, he worked at Rohr Industries until October 1968 when he became a San Diego City FireFighter, retiring after 30 years. He also did construction work on his days off and helped build their second story and breezeway enclosure.
On May 21, 1971, Warren married Greta Baird Jones, and bought a home in University City where he helped raise her two sons, Craig Jones and Keith Jones.
Warren enjoyed cooking, camping, diving, fishing and backpacking. He and Greta loved traveling in their RV and went to Alaska, Canada and many National Parks. Warren was a natural Mr. Fix-It who could build or repair anything. He also did upholstering, which he learned from his father. He was loved by all who knew him. He would sit in the garage (his “Field Office”) and greet all the people who walked by and gave treats to their dogs.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, stepsons Craig Jones (Hillari), San Diego, CA. and Keith Jones (Donna), Lovettsville, VA, brother Mahlon Erwin, Prescott, AZ, grandchildren Austin Jones, Garrett Jones (Renata), Shelby and Emma Jones, Brian Purvis (Shondell) and Jennifer Adams (Jason), and many great grandchildren.
Warren did not want a funeral or service. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23, 2025, at Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2610 Galveston St., San Diego, CA 92110, at 11 a.m.
