Manuel Barreto Sandoval went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, September 12, 2013. He was born December 15, 1929 to Brigido Sandoval and Ester Barreto Sandoval in Pueblo Nuevo, Guanajuato, Mexico into a family of three brothers and four sisters. Manuel moved to California in 1954 where he later met the love of his life, Catalina Ixta Fernandez, in 1956. Together they settled in Pacoima to build their life together with their four children Victor, Elizabeth, Esther, and Martha. Manuel was a man of music recording and performing throughout Southern California and Mexico. He had a bright future in the music industry but decided to focus on his family. Through this he discovered the need for Hispanic ministry in the community. With the direction of Father Gottenboss he helped to start Spanish masses at Mary Immaculate Church in the early 1970’s as well as other clubs and activities that would serve the needs of the Hispanic community. Throughout his life he blessed countless people with the gift of song. From baptisms, to weddings, to funerals his voice would add to the joy or help to soothe the sadness. He is survived by his wife, four children, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two sisters Teresa Cabrera and Socorro Ramos.
In leiu of flowers, donations should be made out to the Scholarship Fund for Music at Mary Immaculate Church, 10390 Remmick Ave., Pacoima, California 91331.
