Born in Waterloo, Iowa on July 30, 1944, he was a graduate of Waterloo West High moving to San Francisco in his 20's. He was active in his local AMVETS Post #34 where he held the office of Treasurer. He was also the Chaplain for the American Legion Army Post #510, American Veterans in Oakland, Legion #40 & #8, Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 464 in Redwood City and a member of Golden Gate Church of Christ in San Francisco.
Charles is survived by his sons, Charles G. Johnson, Jr. and Anthony A. Johnson; wife Amelia A. Johnson; sister Claudia G. Schroeder and brother-in-law John H. Schroeder, Woodland Park, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by all. Charles was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Gladys Johnson.

According to his wishes, Charles will be interred in the Akron Cemetery in Akron, Colorado.
