Amid the art and photography she had so lovingly created in recent years, and in the embrace of her husband and her daughters, Diana left us for now, her nine-year-long struggle with breast cancer over.
Her life touched so many with her deep interest in each person she encountered and lasting friendships built over a lifetime. Her years as a teacher, scholar, therapist and artist left us with rich collections of memories and work, but her most cherished creation was her family; her husband of fifty years, George, and her daughters, Melinda and Mollie. She painted us a beautiful sunrise Tuesday morning, as she went on her way.
To those who knew her as a special education teacher working with the very youngest children here, in Marin, in Santa Ana, and Hollister you can remember the patient and determined effort to bring communication skill to the most challenged. Those of you who knew her at San Francisco State and College of Notre Dame in Belmont where she pursued her Master's degree in Art Therapy you can recall the inquisitive and inspired work she did resulting in her thesis on the use of Art Therapy in a shelter for women and children. Once again she was seeking communication skill for those most in need. In her brief years of practice she helped individuals and couples to seek answers in their relationships through open channels.
Once diagnosed with cancer just over nine years ago, she responded by choosing to use art and music as a creative force to aid her in the struggle. She developed unique techniques of gilding glass and using gold and silver as gilding on photographic images, ultimately developing skills as a photographer as well.
A bright light is dimmed but not out….
