

Eleanor Walsh de Limur 1930 - 2012 Eleanor Walsh de Limur died April 28, 2012 at St Francis Hospital after a short illness. Known affectionately as Nonie, she was born March 13, 1930 with strong California roots; all her grandparents were born here. Nonie was devoted to the arts. In 1954 she co-founded the Art Unlimited Gallery with partners Cyril Magnin, Frank and Betty Ashley, John Redington and Harry Hunt. The gallery showed early works by Warhol, Diebenkorn, Bischoff and Thiebaud. For eight years she lived in Paris in the Palais Royal with her husband, Charles, who was an officer for Bankers Trust Co., and later Senior Vice President of the Crocker Bank in San Francisco. They travelled extensively throughout Europe and the world with family and friends. In San Francisco she worked for American Conservatory Theater, served on its Board and co-founded Friends of A.C.T. She also served on the Board of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation for many years. An accomplished and prolific painter, she studied with Jack Baker, Charley Brown and Barnaby Conrad. Her bucolic country landscapes of the Napa Valley and Provence were exhibited often. With a flair for interior design and an avid gardener, she always had a project in the works. Nonie was a granddaughter of Rudolph Spreckels and Eleanor Joliffe. Mr. Spreckels was a prominent figure in the 1906 Earthquake recovery and in the San Francisco graft trials of that period. She was the daughter of Eleanor Spreckels Walsh and Kenneth Walsh. Nonie was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Charles de Limur, and is survived by her children, Christina of Tiburon, Charles (Gretchen) of Calistoga and Philip of La Quinta, grandchildren Alexandra and André de Limur, and her brother, Edward Spreckels Walsh. Funeral arrangements are by Halsted N. Gray - Carew & English A private family interment will take place at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma next to her husband. Friends are invited to attend the memorial service Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Grace Cathedral, 1100 California Street, San Francisco.
