Julianne was born at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco.
Julianne dearly loved her stepdad, Charles "Chub" Feeney.
Julianne was a "Prez Girl," a graduate of Presentation Academy.
After graduation she and a neighbor boy named Michael Dunne fell in love and she became pregnant.
"We were two little virgins who didn't know any better and got caught off guard in the heat of the moment." She refused Michael's offer of marriage, not wanting to "hold him back."
Her family sent her to St. Anne's, a home for unwed mothers in Los Angeles, where she gave birth to a son, whom she gave up for adoption.
Eventually she and Michael each married other people, and their paths diverged. Julianne and her husband Gus Giacalone adopted a son they named Stephen. Sadly, Julianne lost her beloved brother Bobby to leukemia when he was a young man.
In 1956, Julianne's employment began as a secretary at Hibernia Bank. But she was fascinated with the law and chose to be a secretary in personal injury law practice. She was employed by attorneys Marvin Lewis and Melvin Belli.
In 1995 Julianne joined the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, where she was judicial assistant for two distinguished federal jurists, first with Hon. F. Steele Langford and then with Hon. William W. Schwarzer. Having loved the work, Julianne retired from the District Court in 2007.
Michael Dunne and Julianne re-connected in 2008. Michael's wife had died, and Julianne was divorced. After being adopted as an infant, Michael and Julianne's son Steven discovered his biological parents and he urged Michael to ask Julianne out for dinner. Michael did and they fell in love all over again. They married in 2011.
Together they enjoyed Julianne's fabulous cooking, especially her Italian chicken with green olives, and dining at their favorite restaurants, Original Joe's, the Gold Mirror and Vittorio's.
They often celebrated New Year's Eve at Sutro's at the Cliff House with Richard Fine, M.D., and his wife, Kathleen Campbell, Julianne's longtime friend from Court days.
Michael and Julianne traveled the world and were together until Michael's death in 2024.
Julianne herself succumbed to cancer, for which she had received excellent care from her physicians and surgeons at UCSF: Drs. Chu, Katz, Young, Koshkin, Glenn and Sayedin, and from her caregivers Marbel, Amelia and Nitza, and from nurse Megan and social worker Laura of By the Bay Hospice.
After Michael's death, Julianne remained close with several members of his large family, among them Mike Junior, his wife, Jonna and their children Michael III, D.J., Macey and Macey's husband Jakob and their children Layne and Lennon. Julianne and Michael's son Steven Zirnite (Darlene) died before them, but Steven had children, Jason Zirnite, and Janae Zirnite Stromer (Heath) and grandchildren, Keira and Austin. Julianne also leaves her son Stephen Giacalone (Claudia).
Julianne will be missed by her family and friends, who enjoyed her zest for life, her generosity, and her spirit of adventure.
A Celebration of Julianne Hunt's Life will take place Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the San Francisco Columbarium, One Lorraine Court, San Francisco, California 94118. 415-771-0717. Parking is provided.
