Bertha A. Graciano

Bertha Alicia Graciano, “Mama Bertha” passed away on March 11, 2022 at the age of 64. She was born on January 1, 1958 in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She is the youngest of seven children of Demetrio and Maria Moreno. Since the age of 5, Bertha lived between Juarez and Los Angeles as her father lived in California.

At the age of 14, her residency became permanent and in the year of 1972 is when she met her husband, Miguel. From the moment they met, she knew he was the one. They both would wed on March 26, 1977 and were married for 40 years. In the times to come, they both would have three children, Mayra, Miguel Jr. and Edwin.

Throughout her life, Bertha worked as an aerospace manufacturer for NASA for about 20 years. It wasn’t until 1999 that she and Miguel Sr. became owners of the La Cabana Restaurant. She found joy in entertaining and hosting at the restaurant, there was never a day that you wouldn’t catch her behind the register and or sitting at the first table without getting greeted by her smile. She was always truly the life of the party.

Bertha was also a big fashionista. There was never a day you would never not see her done up. Her hair, makeup and nails were always on point, as were her iconic outfits. She enjoyed going to El Mercadito and the Callejones with her family and friends. She could walk around and shop for hours and make new friends along the way. She would love to give advice to random strangers when she would hear their conversations that she heard passing by, she always had home remedies to offer to whoever needed it.

Bertha took pride in helping others whether it was her family, friends or community. She would bend over backwards to help anyone that needed a hand. You had a problem, and she was there with a solution. She was the missing puzzle piece that fit in everyone’s life.

Bertha’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved to spoil them and would fulfill all their wants without question. From buying Amree’s prom dress, letting Amber wear her dresses and heels, and letting Isaak make a mess at Denny’s. In her later years, though she couldn’t drive herself to Sears or Target, Edwin and Miguel would drive so that she would be able to buy gifts for her grandchildren. There was no challenge that would stand in her way, she attended volleyball games, graduations and Sunday mass. She was always there for her children and grandchildren’s milestones.

Although her narrative has ended, her legacy continues to be ever so present in her three children and six grandchildren. Her contagious personality and beautiful spirit will remain alive through everyone’s life that she touched.

Bertha Alicia Graciano, “Mamá Bertha” falleció el 11 de marzo de 2022 a la edad de 64 años. Nació el 1 de enero de 1958 en Juárez, Chihuahua, México. Es la menor de siete hijos de Demetrio y María Moreno. Desde los 5 años, Bertha vivió entre Juarez y Los Ángeles ya que su padre vivía en California.

A la edad de 14 años su residencia se vuelve permanente y en el año de 1972 es cuando conoce a su futuro esposo Miguel. Desde el momento en que se conocieron, ella supo que él era el indicado. Ambos se casarían el 26 de marzo de 1977 y estuvieron casados durante 40 años. En los tiempos por venir, ambos tendrían tres hijos, Mayra, Miguel Jr. y Edwin.

A lo largo de su vida, Bertha trabajó como fabricante aeroespacial para la NASA durante unos 20 años. No fue sino hasta 1999 que ella y Miguel Sr. se convirtieron en propietarios del restaurante La Cabana. Encontró alegría en entretener y hospedar en el restaurante, nunca había un día en el que no la encontraras detrás de la caja registradora o sentada en la primera mesa sin que su sonrisa te saludara. Ella siempre fue verdaderamente el alma de la fiesta.

Bertha también era una gran “fashionista”. Nunca hubo un día en el que no la verías maquillada. Su cabello, maquillaje y uñas siempre estuvieron a punto, al igual que sus atuendos icónicos. Le gustaba ir a El Mercadito y los Callejones con su familia y amigos. Podía caminar y comprar durante horas y hacer nuevos amigos en el camino. Le encantaba dar consejos a la gente cuando escuchaba sus conversaciones, que escuchaba al pasar, siempre tenía remedios caseros para ofrecer a quien los necesitara.

Bertha se enorgullecía de ayudar a los demás, ya fuera a su familia, amigos o comunidad. Se esforzaría al máximo para ayudar a cualquiera que necesitara una mano. Tenías un problema, y ella estaba allí con una solución. Ella era la pieza faltante del rompecabezas que encajaba en la vida de todos.

El orgullo y la alegría de Bertha eran sus nietos. Le encantaba mimarlos y cumpliría todos sus deseos sin dudarlo. Desde comprar el vestido de “prom” de Amree, dejar que Amber use sus vestidos y tacones, y dejar que Isaak haga un desmadre en Denny's. En sus últimos años, aunque no podía conducir sola a Sears o Target, Edwin y Miguel manejaban para que ella pudiera comprar regalos para sus nietos. No hubo desafío que se interpusiera en su camino, asistía a juegos de voleibol, graduaciones y misa dominical. Ella siempre estuvo ahí para sus hijos y nietos.

Aunque su historia ha terminado, su legado sigue muy presente en sus tres hijos y seis nietos. Su personalidad contagiosa y su hermoso espíritu permanecerán vivos en la vida de todos los que tocó.
