March 22, 1948 – October 18, 2016
Chuck was born in Seattle WA and raised in Durango CO. He was the oldest of eight children (Chuck, Tom, Paul, Mike, David, Anne, Tim and Jean) born to Dr. Tullius and Rose Marie Halley. He loved Colorado and climbed many of the state’s 14ers (mountain peaks with an elevation of at least 14,000 feet).
After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from the University of Colorado, Chuck moved to Houston TX. He married Jane Sullivan in October 1984. Chuck and Jane then moved to Torrance CA where they became active in St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church and served as lectors. Chuck was also a Eucharistic Minister and took Holy Communion to hospital patients. Chuck and Jane moved to Arcadia CA in 2007 and became active in the community of Holy Angels. Chuck continued to serve others by taking Holy Communion to the homebound. He enjoyed visiting with people to ensure they felt connected to the church. He listened carefully and spoke softly.
Chuck’s experience as a Eucharistic Minister led him to enroll in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at St. Camillus Center for Spiritual Care under the direction of Fr. Chris Ponnet. He earned a Master’s Degree in Theology and Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary where he was one of only a handful of Catholic laymen on campus. Chuck was pursuing a Chaplain’s Certification, but was stopped short when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Chuck’s participation in the CPE program advanced his personal growth and contributed to a deepening of his faith. He was a gentle soul who touched many lives and he will be sorely missed.
Services will be held November 9, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 370 Campus Drive, Arcadia CA. Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.
