Jessie Venable Hazelhurst

Jessie Geddes Hazelhurst, 104, entered Glory on June 25, 2025, at home with family in Downey, California. A celebration of life service will take place at Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens Mortuary on July 24, 2025, at 3 p.m.

Jessie was born October 15, 1920, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Her family moved to Pasadena when Jessie was two years old. She graduated from Pasadena City College and completed one year at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. She worked for Dr. Fuller at Fuller Seminary for 16 years. Jessie went on to work in the accounting department for the Rapid Transit District (Metro); she worked there for 26 years. While working at RTD, a friend introduced her to Richard E. Venable. They were married April 18, 1959.

Jessie taught Sunday School for 21 years and sang in the choir at Lincoln Avenue Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jessie was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard E. Venable, Leroy Frank James, and Frank Hazelhurst. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Alexander (Tim) and Rose Larsen (Brian), and her two grandchildren, Daniel and Hannah.

Jessie will be remembered for her commitment to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her kindness, and her love for her family and friends.
