He was the youngest of the five children of Joseph and Adeline Stadler, living in Riverside, Spring Valley, San Jacinto, Oxnard, and Arlington. He attended San Jacinto Elementary School, St. Francis de Sales HS in Riverside, and Santa Clara HS in Oxnard, graduating in 1943. He continued his education under the Navy-V12 program where he studied Electrical Engineering at UCLA and SMU in Dallas, graduating in 1946.
John grew up in a loving and religious family, his sister Marjorie becoming a Dominican sister, and his brother Joe, a Catholic priest. He too felt a vocation, and attended the seminary, before ultimately following a career in aerospace engineering.
On April 24, 1954, he married Nancy Stytle (of Toledo, OH) at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Los Angeles. They settled in Monterey Park, CA, and were blessed with six children, fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
John had many interests. He enjoyed hiking and loved the outdoors. Family vacations were usually spent camping at various beaches, and parks such as Yosemite, King’s Canyon, the San Gabriel Mountains, and The Grand Canyon.
Growing up the son of an engineer, he had a passion for creating and fixing things. A fixit call to a repair man was never a consideration. His love of music and creativity converged when he embarked on an ambitious project to build an organ, including both the electronics and cabinetry. For the two year endeavor, he enlisted the help of his children, and upon completion, the musicianship of his oldest daughter.
John had a strong Catholic faith, and enjoyed reading spiritual books, and attending bible study groups at church. He served as a eucharistic minister, bringing joy into the lives of those he served by spending time and engaging in conversation with them.
Family was always the highest priority for John, and his loving and nurturing manner guided everything he did. He was adored by his wife, children, and everyone who knew him.
After losing his wife of 54 years, he enjoyed emailing old friends and family and sharing his biography entitled John Edmund Stadler - My First Thirty Years with them. He sought out old childhood and school friends, and rekindled old friendships.
In 2008, John suffered a stroke and embarked upon the next and final phase of his life when he shared his loving personality with his fellow residents of the Scripts Kensington home in Alhambra, CA.
John is survived by his six children Barb, Joe, Greg, Chris, Teri, and Ann, fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They will all miss him greatly.
Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens Mortuary, San Gabriel, CA.
