Maria Elena Velarde

Maria Elena Velarde, born on August 20, 1935, in El Paso, Texas, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Goodyear, Arizona, at the age of 90. She lived most of her life in California, where she was known for her humor, love, and as the life of the party. Maria Elena was cherished by her family and friends, and she will be remembered for making the best tamales and Menudo.

Maria Elena was predeceased by her first husband, John De Vone Sr., who passed away on June 9, 1976, and her second husband, Álvaro Velarde, who passed away on March 25, 2025. She is survived by her daughter Diane and son Chris. She is now at peace with her sons Steve, who passed away on March 26, 2023, and John, who passed on November 10, 2024, along with her loving husbands John and Álvaro and the rest of her Hidalgo family.

Maria Elena had four children, one daughter, Diane, and three sons, John, Steve, and Chris. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and cherish her memory forever.

A visitation will be held at Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens Mortuary, located at 1136 East Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel, CA 91776, on January 7, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at All Saints Catholic Church, 3431 Portola Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90032, on January 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the committal service at Resurrection Cemetery, 966 Potrero Grande Dr, Rosemead, CA 91770, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Maria Elena Velarde lived a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. We love you, Mom; you will be forever in our hearts.
