

Richard S. Fryer passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2013, with members of his family and his caregiver by his side. Richard lived in South Pasadena for over sixty years. As a decorated WWII veteran and recent college graduate Richard arrived in South Pasadena in 1947 with his wife Lois. Richard and Lois raised their family in South Pasadena and were active community volunteers for much of their adult life.
Richard worked in the Pasadena Unified School District for over thirty years as a teacher and as a high school counselor at Washington Middle School and John Muir High School, retiring to enjoy his grandchildren in 1985. His kindness, patience and respectful attitude influenced many. He later worked part time in the Alhambra Unified School District as a counselor at Baldwin Elementary School.
Richard is survived by his wife Lois, his four children, Nancy Stellar (John), Rick Fryer (Mary Ann), Judy Valdez (Rudy), Brent Fryer (Jewel) and his loving grandchildren, Brad and Jeff Stellar, Ada Fryer, Rudy and Brent Valdez, and Lily and Ricky Fryer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the South Pasadena High School Tiger Booster Club c/o Nancy Stellar 1631 Wayne Avenue, South Pasadena, CA 91030. A celebration of Richard’s life is scheduled for a later date.
