Sharon Rae Oropeza was born to Laura and Ray Uebersetzig in Wanaukee, Wisconsin, where she grew up before her family relocated to Monterey Park, California. Sharon was the oldest of five children, her younger brothers being Bill, Larry, Gary and Dale.
While living in Monterey Park, Sharon met Victor Oropeza, whom she married in 1956. Sharon and Victor had three children together, Jenny, Lynne, and John Oropeza. Sharon would later become a grandmother and a great-grandmother, which some may argue were the highlights of her life.
Sharon was a family woman who got great pleasure from bringing happiness to those who she loved and cared for. She loved to give to others and was incredibly outgoing and selfless. Sharon loved her family unconditionally and had an enormous heart, even to complete strangers. Sharon’s smile was infectious; she would walk into a room and immediately make new friends everywhere she went.
Sharon was loud and proud of her children and grandchildren’s achievements. One of Sharon’s proudest moments was when her daughter, Jenny Oropeza, was elected as California State Assembly in 2000, then again elected to the California State Senate in 2006. Sharon was very proud and would brag anytime an opportunity presented itself.
Sharon lived a beautiful, long and fulfilled life. She was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and a Nana (great-grandmother).
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Laura and Carl Schweitzer; brothers Bill Uebersetzig, Larry Uebersetzig, and Dale Schweitzer; and daughter Jenny Oropeza.
Sharon is survived by her brother Gary; children John and Lynne; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren plus two on the way.
