I was a co-worker of Alan's for 20+ years at the Post Office.  We rarely worked together in any specific capacity, but we talked casually on many occasions. I remember him respectfully as being a quiet, even-tempered guy who loved his family; and, as a man with  passions that he  cultivated with joy and tremendous focus. I  enjoyed the photos shared in this online memorial that highlighted Alan's growth from childhood and on through his adult life.  It was clear that his life's path was a full and satisfying journey full of love and support from family and his many friends.  I will remember him always as a caring friend and I'm sure he was aware of the respect he gained from his P.O. pal, "Uncle Steve."

I just wanted to say how beautiful and very special the tribute video is.  I know a lot of love, thought and time when into such a wonderful tribute.    I am sure Alan would be most pleased.

I have fond memories of sitting next to Alan at Campbell Strings.  He always had a smile on his face, ready to laugh.  AND, could that man play violin!  I counted on him to lead me forward.

I feel blessed getting to know Alan during our years at Campbell Strings.  He is very much missed.

Alan is one of my favorite persons.  He is a very genuine and caring person.  Alan is also super nice.  I feel lucky to know him and I am proud that he is my brother-in-law.  I will always miss his kindness.  RIP Alan.  You will forever be in my heart.

Alan was the friendliest person I have known.  He was always genuine and cared about people.  I remember the first time I met Alan was in 1981 when Grace and I returned a picnic basket to Janny and Alan’s house.  Alan just bought a nice pickup truck and he tried to explain to me who knew nothing about cars.  As I know Alan more, I found that Alan was very enthusiastic about taking pictures, running, playing the violin, and the stock market.  Alan devoted his time to his passions and he knew how to live his life.  We always enjoyed Alan’s company.  Our two families went to the World Expo in Canada and visited the Great Wall together and had so much fun.  Although it was shortened by cancer Alan had lived a full life and he enjoyed it very much.  I missed Alan, his pictures, his financial advice, and his warm smile.  I will always miss Alan, my good friend.

I worked with Alan at the post office way back in the late 1970's/early 1980's.  It was no secret to anyone who knew Alan that he was truly unhappy working there.  Alan was very quiet and always had his headset on.  He didn't really show any emotion unless he talked about the stock market or his joy in running. I remember running a couple of races with him and George Manriquez, both elite runners back in their days.  Naturally, they both left me behind in the dust.  One of Alan's happiest days was when he married Janny; the other was when he retired from the post office.  In spite of his unhappiness at the post office, Alan was able to bond and form friendships with many of his ex coworkers.  Alan fought very hard battling his brain cancer, way longer than anyone expected.  His will to live was extremely strong, never wanting to give up.  He doesn't have to fight anymore.  He is finally at peace now.  RIP Alan!!

I remember Uncle Alan as a soft spoken kind man, always patient and always ready to explain the inner working of things. He always always made me feel important and that my thoughts, opinions, and voice mattered. He always listened to me and for a kid that was BIG! I remember thinking I want to be just like Incle Alan when I grow up. I even tried the violin for my music class; failed miserably lol , ddnt realize it took such hard work and dedication at the time but I wanted to be like Uncle Alan because he was the BEST guy I knew as a child. He will forever be that for me ... the BEST guy , that showed me kindness and love when I needed it the most. I love you Uncle Alan. I will remember your kindness forever in my heart.

My deepest sympathy to the family in the loss of this wonderful man, my friend, Alan. His love for his family, friends and others was 
something he showed freely.  I will forever be grateful for the time and wonderful memories I had at Alum Rock Park, when attending the Cross-Country reunions.. Alan always had a smile and a kind word for me. Thank you for remembering my brother, Larry and I, as his sister.  Gods peace, my friend..

I first met Alan over  52 years ago.  Alan was an incoming freshman at Mt. Pleasant High School and I was the Cross Country/Track coach.
Alan told me he wanted to be a runner and he joined the Cross Country Team.  He became a standout runner on the frosh team.  By his sophomore year he not only made the Varsity team, but made ALL LEAGUE - FIRST TEAM.  Alan went on to become an outstanding distance runner.  He loved running the hills because, he told me, that he was more determined than many of the faster athletes and that was his great equalizer.
Alan was a lot more than just a great runner - he was a great person, husband, father, grandfather and friend.  His determination in running spilled over to his battle to live.  He told me that he was determined to survive to see May Ling's baby - his first grandchild.  Many, including myself, didn't think he would survive that long, but we under estimated Alan's determination and will to live.
