He was born on August 16, 1938, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Annie and Joe Ortiz. Al was an avid reader, loved to work and spend time in his yard, take long walks, loved boxing, and especially loved his family. Al was a boxer for many years and then also coached young boxers in Rawlins. He was a very kind, caring, loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will forever be missed.
Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ida; daughters, Darlene Sanchez (Ernie), Connie Alvarado (Carlos), and son, Sonny Ortiz (Kellie); brother, Johnny Ortiz (Bernice); sisters, Eva Lucero (Jim), and Mary Ann Sisneros; three grandchildren, Chris, Nick, and Natasha, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rudy Ortiz.
He will be buried in Rawlins with a memorial gathering being held in the summer of 2022.
