Dick was born on May 15, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA to Charles and Loretta Scanlan, their beloved only child. He graduated from Loyola High School and went on to graduate from Santa Clara University with a degree in Accounting. Dick played football at SCU and was in the ROTC and after graduating, he served as a Lieutenant in the Artillery unit in Korea. Dick and Carolan married in 1959, settling in San Jose in 1961 where Dick began his long career in Finance with Lockheed Missiles and Space Co., retiring as an Executive Vice-President of Finance. He was very dedicated and proud of his 35 years with Lockheed. In retirement, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and traveling with Carolan in their motorhome. Dick was loved by his family, friends, and coworkers and will be dearly missed. Our family would like to thank everyone for the love they have shown him in these last years of his illness, especially his dear caregiver Bennie, for all of her patience and loving care.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for December 22, 2020 at St. John Vianney Church (limited to family due to COVID-19) and burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. John Vianney Parish 4600 Hyland Ave San Jose, CA 95127, where Dick was an active and dedicated parishioner for 60 years.
