At age 85, Chiq (Chiquita Coe Elizabeth Schilling Lockhart) peacefully joined her Lord on September 8, 2012. Her always positive attitude and Christian spirit will be sorely missed. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Karl and Coe McCabe Schilling on October 25, 1926. She married Robert William Lockhart in1949 and lived in Schenectady, New York where their family grew to include children Laura Carroll (Walt), Robert (Connie), Kathleen Coe Wilson (Cliff) and William. After moving to San Jose in 1957, this wonderful, loving mother raised her family and was delighted when her family grew to include nine grandchildren, Jennifer and Kaitlin Lockhart; Jonathan (Candice), Sarah Coe Cox (Clinton) and Daniel Wilson; Lydia, Karl, Kurt and Maria Lockhart, became part of the family. She recently welcomed two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Seth Wilson. She is fondly remembered by her sister Priscilla Beth Lucas and sister-in-law Marilyn Wilson and their families.
Chiq and Bob were always very active, involved members of their church families. She was a Deacon and Elder while at Calvin Presbyterian Church and was especially committed to children's programs. She maintained her close relationship with friends from Calvin over the years. In 2004, she moved into Lincoln Glen Manor where she made many new friends and found a wonderful church family. As a member of Lincoln Glen Church, she was welcomed warmly into their community and loved her small group Bible Studies and greeting people before services.
In addition to the commitment to her faith and her family, Chiq was a proud alumnus of UC Berkeley, an Alpha Chi Omega sister, a teacher, a Girl Scout, Camp Fire Girl and Cub Scout leader, a church school teacher and wonderful mother. She loved nature and National Parks and for many years was a docent at History San Jose.
A celebration of her life will be held at Lincoln Glen Church, 2700 Booksin Ave., San Jose, CA, 95125 at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. All friends of Chiq are cordially invided.
