Ciro was born in Trabia Sicily on May 8th 1937. He was the 2nd of three sons, born of Rosario and Marianne DiVittorio. His childhood consisted of playing soccer (which he loved), working hard in school, and working with his father and grandfather on the farm and in the construction business. He came from a line of seven generations of builders and masons. He grew up doing masonwork with his father and grandfather, starting at a young age building homes as well as learning farming.
Ciro loved to play soccer. He played as a defender for a semi-professional team including Termini Imerese. He loved it so much; he assisted in organizing teams to form a league of their own. He played for 'Sons of Italy.' At the age of 18, he moved to America. His love for soccer continued where he started the sport of soccer in the greater Bay Area.
Then, at the age of 22 years old, he joined the U.S. Army. Ciro continued to play soccer in the army. While in, he excelled and received awards such as marksmanship. He was honorably discharged after 2 years of service.
Ciro always worked hard. When he worked at Larson Ladder, he would wake up at 4 a.m. and come home at 9 p.m. Walk two miles to take the bus from 16th Street to downtown, arriving at Lafayette Street in Santa Clara. Then, he would walk two miles in the reverse. He had a very imaginative mind. He even designed a manufacturing tool and patented, "Ciro's Wedge," a design to make all swinging tools safer and stronger.
At the age of 24 he left to marry the love of his life and bring her back to the US. Rosa Cancilla, daughter of Salvatore and Antonina Cancilla. Ciro and Rosa moved to San Jose, California together and had three children: Anna Rosa, Rosario Salvatore, and Antonella Agatha. Ciro loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. Along the way, he made great friends.
Coming from a poor background he had the ability to work hard and invest well to create a comfortable life for his wife, and family. He was a great provider and continues to be a great provider for his children and grandchildren alike.
Ciro and Rosa loved to entertain, spending time with friends and family. Rosa would bake cookies and cook delicious food. Ciro would tell stories and make sure there was always plenty to go around. They loved to go dancing, and we're quite the dancers on the dance floor. Ciro was a very generous man as well. He made friends everywhere he went and loved to meet new people from all walks of life. He valued friendship and family alike and would help them all in any way he was able to. They lived life to the fullest experiencing it in many ways, enjoying traveling to visit other countries, experiencing new cultures and all
that life has to offer.
Sadly, at the age of 86, Ciro passed on August 20th, 2023 from heart and COVID complications. In Ciro's memory, he leaves behind two children: Anna Billings, Rosario Di Vittorio, four grandchildren Preston, Jeremy, Ciro, and Brandon, four great-grandchildren and two brothers Giuseppe and Gaetano. We will miss him dearly. Now, Rosa and Ciro are together again in heaven looking down upon us with love.
He will always be loved by us, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. We will miss him dearly and always remember the good times as he will always be in our thoughts and heart.
