With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Coy Randall Arendsee, a beloved father, son, sibling, uncle, nephew, grandfather, and friend, who left us on February 28, 2025. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
Coy is survived by his children, Olivia Paige Arendsee and Nicholas Connor Nielsen; grandchildren, Sofia Cecchini-Nielsen and Connor Daniel Nielsen; mother, Mary Ann Arendsee; siblings, Amanda Raffanti Dunbar and David Arendsee; nieces, Taylor Alexis Raffanti and Victoria Arendsee; nephews, Colt and Luke Arendsee; great-nephew, Ryan Cabral; sister-in-law, Tasha Arendsee; brother-in-law, Clinton Dunbar; and son-in-law, Matthew Charles Walsh. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Elder Arendsee.
An avid supporter of Bay Area sports teams, Coy also found joy in watching local bands perform and pursuing his passion for skateboarding. Whether cheering from the stands, enjoying live music, or taking countless trips to the beach, Coy's enthusiasm for these activities was contagious to all who know him.
Beyond his personal passions, Coy was a pillar of love and strength for his family and friends. He cherished his Santa Cruz friends deeply, maintaining those special bonds through memorable beach days and shared adventures. His kindness knew no bounds, always ready with a listening ear, a helping hand, or a warm smile that could brighten even the darkest days.
Coy also had a deep love for the beach, finding peace in the sound of the waves, the feel of the sand beneath his feet, and the beauty of the endless horizon. Whether it was early morning walks along the shore or watching the sunset with loved ones, the beach was a place where he felt most at home.
Coy lived a life filled with love—for family, for friends, and for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Some of his happiest moments were spent enjoying family dinners, sharing his deep love for music, and spending time in the beautiful outdoors. His ability to uplift others through comforting words in times of need and his countless acts of kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Coy had a deep and unconditional love for his daughter, Olivia. She was the light of his life, his greatest source of pride, and his most cherished joy. Every moment spent with Olivia was precious to him, from their 6 a.m car rides to cheer competitions, to their Me First and the Gimme Gimmes concert. Coy was the greatest Pops his Berbs could ever hope for. Olivia was not only his daughter but his heart, and his love for her will forever remain a shining legacy.
One of the most cherished relationships in Coy's life was with his sister, Amanda. Their bond was unbreakable, built on years of daily conversations, shared laughter, and a deep understanding of each other. They found comfort in their shared political views, often discussing the world around them with passion and insight. Amanda was not just a sister to Coy, but a confidante, a best friend, and an unwavering source of support.
Coy shared a special bond with his brother David. The two could often be found cheering for their favorite teams together and enjoying their shared enthusiasm for sports, creating countless memorable moments. Coy also treasured the time spent with his nephews, fully embracing his role as a playful and devoted uncle.
Among those who meant the most to Coy was his forever best friend, Chris Landon. Music was a language they both understood deeply, and it became a soundtrack to their enduring bond. Through all of life's ups and downs, Chris was always there—offering unwavering support, shared laughter, and a bond that stood the test of time. Their friendship was a testament to loyalty, understanding, and the kind of connection that only comes once in a lifetime.
As we celebrate his life, we invite those who loved Coy to share their memories, stories, and laughter, for that is how he would want to be remembered—through joy and love, rather than sorrow.
A Celebration of Life for Coy is to be determined, and details will be shared with loved ones at a later date.
Though Coy may no longer walk among us, his love, kindness, and humor will continue to live on in all who were fortunate to know him.
Rest in peace, dear Coy. May your memory rock on.
