Homegoing Celebration for Mom

Deloris Saams-Hoy was born on May 5, 1967 in San Jose, CA. She was the youngest of seven children to William and Margaret Evans.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1985 and Santa Clara University in 1989 with a degree in Marketing.

After graduating she worked at several companies in Silicon Valley. She had a passion for travel. Along with her sisters Annette, Nora, Janice, and friends, Bobbie and Samantha, she traveled the world.

In 1998, one of her many vacations, she met the love of her life, Robert Saams-Hoy, and they were married in 1999. They were blessed with three beautiful children who Deloris and Robert continued to travel with.

She also became a master of scrapbooking and T-shirt making. If you gave her a design for a T-shirt, she could bring it to life. She was also a very active member of her church.

She was THAT mom at every game her children had. You know, the loudest and proudest mom in the stands. There wasn’t a game or event she would miss if one of her babies were involved.

In April of 2019, Deloris was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She fought a valiant fight as she endured an unheard-of 46 rounds of chemo like a champ. She never complained and always found joy every day that she was given. She even acquired the title of “Dancing Queen” as she found much of her joy in dancing and making TikTok videos with her children. Unfortunately, Deloris lost her 2 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer on May 3, 2021.

She is preceded in death by her father William Evans Sr., her sister Elnora Evans, her brother William “Bill” Evan Jr., and her mother Margaret Evans.

She is survived by her husband Robert Saams-Hoy, her children, Merylin McCartan (Patrick), Isaiah Saams-Hoy and Maya Saams-Hoy, grandsons Lennox and Patrick as well as her brother Marvin (Sunil), her sisters Annette, Janice, Evon (Pete), Bobbie, and Tammy, and a cohort of nieces and nephews; Maurice, Christine (Aaron), Latasha, Danae, Pat (Kelsey), Marcel, Devaun, Christopher (Christine), Dionne, Tina (Nick), Derek, Alexis, Aliya, Krystal, Kyra, Levaun, Shane, Aailyah, Amiyah, Andrae (“Lala”), Avaya, Erin, and Christian who all brought her so much joy.

She Shall be Praised Proverbs 31: 10 and 25-31 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honour her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

I still say I love you, but now there’s no reply. I always feel your presence as if you never left my side. Love, until we meet again.-Robert/Babe

D, you will always be in my heart. You taught me so much, so many things i will never forget & pass on to my children. I will make sure to continue to make you proud just like you told me before you were gone and continue to chase after my dreams & goals. I will take care of my siblings and my boys. I will make sure Dad is always taken care of. I know you’re in heaven dancing with my Mom. I love you! -Merylin

My rock, my best friend, and my number 1 fan always. -Isaiah/Baby

Hey Ma/Felicia, I love you more than a billion, than a google, than infinity, and beyond. 1, 2, 3, go, I WON! Thank you for being m y greatest inspiration and biggest support but overall my bestest friend in the entire world. You have shown me what true strength looks like and I hope to one day be just half the woman you are. Rest now, Mom, I love you always and forever! -Maya/Sweetpea

Deloris, your loss has left a deep void in our broken hearts. You were the rock and centre of our family and your loss has truly devastated us. Your unconditional love and devotion to Robert, Maya, Isaiah and Merilyn was a shining light. I thank you for bringing so much joy to Lennox in his first years of life. Your words of wisdom will stay with me forever and I promise to pass them onto the next generations. Throughout your cancer you showed strength and courage of a real fighter, a real life hero to us all. We miss you so much and our love for you is eternal. -Patrick

To My Family I am sitting here in Heaven and having a wonderful day. I started thinking about you and all the things I didn't get a chance to say. I don't want you to worry about me and please don't shed any tears, because I will wait for you in Heaven, if it takes a hundred years. Everything I had on Earth I have in Heaven too! My first day here, my body became brand new. It is really pretty here and I love my new home, although your heart is broken because my body is gone, my love will always be there. As you go along the way, just take a peek inside your heart, there is where I'll stay. Know that I loved my family and all my friends too. My thoughts will be with each of you, your whole life through.
