Eleanor passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2023, surrounded by family after a long struggle with COPD. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Fred Carrillo. Her legacy lives on through five of their six children and their families: Angie (John, deceased), Fred (Maria), Debra Yuhre (Bill), Vidal, and Daniel (Eric). Ramona, their youngest daughter died at six months.
She was born to Robert and Consuelo Bracamonte, in Pajaro, California. As a toddler, she lived in farmworker camps on the Central Coast, until her parents decided to settle in San Jose.
Eleanor was the oldest of ten children. She met her future husband when they were 12-year-old classmates at Roosevelt Junior High School. At 17, Eleanor married Fred days before he shipped off to Korea. Four years after his return, they purchased a house and moved their young family to the east foothills.
Proud of being a homemaker and stay at home mom, Eleanor occasionally worked at local canneries, as a store clerk, seasonal fairground employee, and a teacher’s aide. She volunteered for years as an Election Day Poll worker, was active at her church, and willingly drove neighbors to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores and shopping trips.
Family camping vacations were the highlight of every summer. What started in a huge surplus Army tent, eventually evolved into a 36-foot RV adventure, and ended in an addiction to KOA cabins. Multiple generations would mark their calendars and plan their participation in the getaway.
Eleanor is also survived by her sisters: Rita, Gloria, and Connie; her grandchildren; Holly, Noel, Consuelo, Veronica, and Vidal; her great-grandchildren Alyssa, Eddie, Jonathan, Joel, Adam, Christian, Nathan, Bella, Citlalli, and Maya. And her great-great-grandchildren: Selena, Sloan, Sunny, and Leland.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings Jennie, John, Robert, Rudy, Raymond, and Joe. Her daughter, Ramona, and grandson, Ronald Saldivar.
A committal service for Eleanor will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Oak Hill Memorial Park & Mortuary, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125.
