

Esther Fay Chumney born Oct. 4, 1932 in Modesto, Ca., entered Heaven’s gates on Sept. 25, 2018 at age 85. She was the youngest of eight children born to John and Elsie (Emig) Harms, with four brothers and three sisters. Esther met her loving husband Elmer H. Chumney on a blind date in San Francisco and were later married April 21, 1956 in Empire, Ca. Elmer and Esther enjoyed 48 years of marriage until his passing. Residing in Santa Clara, Ca since 1965, Esther lived in her beloved home for 53 years. She first worked at the Federal Reserve Bank where she counted the out of circulation bills before they were burned. Esther also worked in the attendence office of Santa Clara High School for several years. She made many friends thru her 25 years of selling AVON. As a loving mother and homemaker, her real passion was her family where she enjoyed volunteering her time at her children and later
grandchildren’s schools, Girl Scouts, and various other activities. She enjoyed herself the most when spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family. Her pastimes included quilting, playing card
games and doing puzzles. Esther leaves behind her two devoted daughters and son-in-law, Carla Sendig and Karna and Scott Redman, loving grandchildren Sarah and Deanna Sendig and Kayla and Ethan Redman and many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends are invited to the funeral service celebrating her life to be held Friday, October 19 at 1:00pm at Oak Hill Chapel of the Roses, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose. Visitation will be Thursday, October 18 from noon to 9:00pm at Oak Hill Funeral Home, same address as above. Private Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson, Ca.
