Fernando Batista Pereira peacefully passed away at home while surrounded by his family on October 1, 2016.
Fernando was born on July 20, 1940 in Brancas, Batalha, Portugal to Luis Pereira Cale´ and Gracinda Batista Soares. He immigrated with his young family to America in 1969 in pursuit of the American dream. He first arrived in Connecticut and worked as a diesel mechanic. In 1980, he moved the family to San Jose and opened his own diesel truck and auto repair business. Fernando loved to cook, especially every Sunday for his family, as well as cheer for the Portuguese fûtbol club – Sporting.
Fernando is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by loving wife of 51 years, Maria Alice; his daughters Lina (Joseph); Suzette (Scott); Nancy (Joseph); Christina (Larry); sons Louis and Frank (Diane); 10 grandchildren; 3 sisters; and nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Willow Glen Funeral Home from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 followed by a celebration of Fernando’s life at Five Wounds Church. Viewing will continue at 6:00 pm followed by rosary at 7:00 pm, with a mass at 7:15. Interment Thursday, October 6, 2016, 11:00 am at Calvary Cemetery.
