Francisco P. Cayabyab, beloved by all who knew him, was born on October 3, 1932, in Pangasinan, Philippines, and passed away on July 3, 2024, in the comforting presence of his family. He has now joined his wife, Aurora, and their youngest son, Joey, who have been waiting for him in heaven.
Francisco was the oldest of ten siblings and was named after his mother, Francisca. He married his high school sweetheart, Aurora, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion.
Francisco made the courageous decision to bring his family to the United States from the Philippines, striving for a better life. He balanced his hardworking nature with a zest for life, embodying the spirit of both dedication and celebration. Generous, with a knack for picking up the tiniest of lint from the carpet and getting his grandchildren involved in this quirky activity, funny, and so very loving, Francisco's personality left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His faith in God was a guiding force throughout his life.
As a scientist, Francisco dedicated his life to unraveling the mysteries of human health. His groundbreaking research led to life-saving cures, and his mentorship shaped the careers of countless PhD students in the Bay Area. Francisco's legacy lives on through the scientific advancements he championed.
He was especially close to his siblings Violeta Diaz, Ernie Cayabyab, Roland Cayabyab, and Leonila de Vera.
Francisco is survived by his children, from eldest to youngest: Evelyn Pallaya (Carl), Danilo Cayabyab (Valerie), Edgardo Cayabyab (Mae), Wilma Cayabyab, and Ronald Cayabyab (Liza).
