9/17/1995 to 11/23/2024
Our beloved Gavin Cunha Drucker passed away on November 23 rd, 2024. He is
survived by his parents Douglas Drucker, and Gloria Cunha Drucker, his sister Natalie
Drucker, a loving extended family, and many friends. He will be remembered as a
brilliant person, a shining star full of light, and as a loving man with exceptional abilities.
Gavin attended Almaden Country School, Bellarmine College Preparatory, and the
University of California, Santa Barbara for the mechanical engineering program. He
was a beautiful and perfect little boy who always had a smile. He was inventive,
creative, kind, loyal and joyful. He loved building things, he was an avid Lego
enthusiast, who later developed an extensive interest in robotics. In middle school, his
Lego robotics team was selected to attend the international competition in Atlanta,
Georgia. He became a wonderful and unique young man.
Gavin was an incredible and gifted scholar. He was selected to be the valedictorian
speaker at his middle school graduation. He quoted Marianne Williamson, “Our
deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful
beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask
ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you
not to be?” He was a National Merit Scholar at Bellarmine. He was on the Bellarmine
robotics team. Gavin graduated with a 4.2 GPA from Bellarmine.
Gavin’s love of learning made him a stunningly excellent student. In particular, he was
truly exceptional in math and science. He had a perfect 800 SAT math score. He was
never one to brag, he was humble, yet always pushed himself to excel. He was a Virgo,
always meticulous, precise and exact. Even as a young boy he was organized, and
approached problem solving in a well thought out manner. As a young man, he did his
math homework neatly in ink. He would do advanced math problems for fun. He
always seemed to be a joyful student, enjoying and relishing the process of learning.
School was his passion, a playground for his well-developed mind.
He loved athletics and played many sports. He was a great teammate, a passionate
competitor, and always strove to improve himself in everything he did. He played for
the Almaden Little League. He was on eight-man crew for the Los Gatos Rowing Club.
He played Lacrosse for the Vipers. As a young boy he played with a fierce
determination, a bold and fearless approach to competition. He was a true warrior, and
always found a way to accomplish what he set out to do. As he grew older, he
maintained his fierceness, his determination, and added discipline and hard work to his
repertoire. His will to succeed was impressive, and he became the athlete he always
wanted to be. At the end of practices, he was the kid that went up to the coaches and
thanked them for practice. He was a team player, devoted to his teammates, and
always was one of the loudest voices cheering others on.
Our love for Gavin is timeless. It is abundantly clear that Gavin is and will always be an
incredible gift for us. We feel deeply blessed to have him in our lives. Gavin’s name
comes from the Welsh, it means white hawk. It is the name of Sir Gawain of Arthurian
legend, a knight of the Round Table. We chose the name as it refers to a man who is
strong, noble, pure of mind, body and spirit. Gawain was a champion of justice, of
goodness and faith. Gavin more than lived up to his name, he surpassed all of our
expectations with grace and courage.
Gavin will be remembered as a loving son, brother, cousin, nephew, teammate, friend,
student, and so many other things. Gavin unexpectedly passed on 11/23/2024 due to a
pulmonary embolism that led to cardiac arrest. He loved life and fought to stay here
with us to the end. His glowing memory fills the vast void of his physical departure. On
white wings, he soars in heaven.
The family requests no gifts. Donations can be made to Hunger At Home.
