Hau Phung passed away at the age of 91 years old. She was born on August 8, 1931 in Biên Hòa, Vietnam. Her father owned a dried food store and mother passed away when she was a young child. Her father later remarried. She had 3 siblings, 2 brothers and a younger sister. She was married to Tai Huynh in 1971 and gave birth to her son, Rick, in 1972.
She endured the dangerous trip fleeing from Vietnam during the fall of Saigon on a boat and survived the danger of sea pirates. She lived in the refugee camp over a year on Bidong Island of Malaysia until her stepson, Joe, sponsored her, her sister, Mieu, and her son, Rick to live in America. The three of them came to America in 1980 as refugees and settled in San Jose.
In her early years living in America, life was very difficult for her as a middle aged single mother. She did not know how to speak or read English and never had a chance to learn how to drive a car because she had to work long hours to support her young son. She worked very hard most of her life and was very resilience. She was able to enjoy the rest of her golden years with her sister and was able to travel to visit Asia and the East Coast. One of her favorite activities was going to the Indian casinos to play on the slot machines and she enjoyed spending time with her son Rick and her grandchildren.
Hau was always happy, caring, loving, and laughed a lot. She never got upset at anything and had an infectious smile. She loved food and enjoyed eating out with son/grandchildren. She was very proud to have two beautiful grand-daughters, Tiana & Aubrey, that resemble her and her sister.
She is survived by her younger sister, younger brother in Hong Kong, 1 son, 4 stepchildren, grand- children and great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law.
