A message from his children...
Our beloved Father, Hoan N. Nguyen, was born in Hung Yen, North Vietnam. On October 19, 1953 our Father married our Mom, Duong Thi Minh-Tam and their marriage lasted for over 66 years. Our parents had 9 children (6 boys and 3 girls). On that fateful day, April 30, 1975 our Father was still in the army and decided that it’s time for our family to leave our homeland, Saigon. Our Father began his new life and career in Great Falls, Montana, August 1975, as a carpenter, a translator for the Vietnamese resettlement program, a janitor for Charles M. Russell High School, and a bookkeeper for Peace Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran Churches, which sponsored our family until our family became self-supporting.
Our Father worked extremely hard to support the family. Our Father moved the family to Northern California in the summer of 1979 so that his family could be together while the children are in college. For over 15 years, our Father worked as a supervisor at Toshiba Semiconductor in Santa Clara, CA, but was forced to early retirement to care for his beloved wife due to her health. His beloved wife passed in March 2019 and his eldest son, Hai, passed in March 2001.
In his spare time, our Father enjoyed reading and study Dharma/Buddha and spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could.
On a cold Tuesday night, December 17, 2019, our Father passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years old at Kaiser Hospital. Our Father was surrounded by his 8-children, 13-grandchildren and 2-great grandchildren after fighting a courageous year-long battle with heart condition, kidney failure and diabetes.
Our father had been in the army since 1953 when it was under the French army; moved to the South in 1954 when the Geneva Treaty divided the country. Before 1975, he was a respected Lieutenant Colonel and was the commander of the 90th Air Supply and Parachute Repaired Base (Chỉ Huy Trưởng Căn Cứ 90 Tiếp Tế và Sửa Chữa Dù thuộc Cục Quân Nhu, Quân Lực VNCH) of the Quartermaster Department of the ARVN. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He touched the heart and soul of all those who cross his path. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends will forever remember our lovingly Father.
Our Father will be missed by many but never forgotten…
