Iona Sakalia Peniata

With broken hearts, we share that our beloved son, Iona, passed away unexpectedly on July 27th at the age of 34.

Born with a gentle spirit and a contagious smile, his presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him. He lived life with more joy, honesty, and love than most people ever will. He didn’t let anything hold him back; he laughed loudly, hugged fiercely, and made everyone around him feel special. His smile could light up a room, and his happiness was completely contagious.

He loved French Fries, Naan, Dancing, Bhangra music, Amitabh Bachchan movies and folding clothes, He found a reason to be happy, and he shared that happiness freely.

Iona taught us what it means to love unconditionally. He reminded us to slow down, to laugh more, to be kind. And he made our lives so much rich just by being himself.

He leaves behind his mom, Nora, his brothers Prabh and Div, and family Surjit, Jagjeet, Manjot, and Preet. They were Papa, Jeet, Jot and Anni to him. He was adored by a big, beautiful circle of family friends, and Hope Services’ peers and staff. We all feel the hole he’s left, but we’re also so grateful for the years we got to share with him.

We’ll be gathering to for Iona’s services on August 16th at Oak Hill Funeral Home, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, 95125, starting at 10am; followed by celebration of Iona’s life from 3pm onwards at 6354 El Paseo Dr., San Jose, 95120. If you knew him, please come and help us remember all the love, light, and laughter he brought into the world.

Iona may be gone, but his joy, his hugs, and his beautiful heart will stay with us forever.
