Irma was born in Moncagua, San Miguel, El Salvador and was the third youngest of seven children. While Irma was in college, she worked as a secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture of El Salvador where she met her future husband, Carlos. Although it wasn’t easy, Carlos charmed his way into her heart and they were married on October 31, 1981 at the Capilla de Instituo Catlico de Oriente in San Miguel, El Salvador. They were married for 38 years.
Irma and Carlos immigrated with their family to San Jose, California in 1982. She worked full-time and went to school at night to learn English. In 1989, while working and raising a family, Irma received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting) from San Jose State University and in 2005, became a Certified Public Accountant. Irma worked at the California Board of Equalization, in the downtown San Jose office, for 23 years, retiring as a Supervising Tax Auditor in 2013. She loved her job, its challenges, her colleagues and mentoring others.
In her spare time, Irma loved to read and was especially fond of autobiographies; two of her favorites were Living History by Hilary Rodham Clinton and Becoming by Michelle Obama. Being that she always loved a challenge, Irma loved doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku.
She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Carlos, their family and friends. She loved learning about new cultures and trying new things. Irma traveled to every continent except Antarctica!
But the one thing Irma enjoyed the most was hosting and spending time with friends and family. She loved sharing delicious meals and conversation. She loved playing games with her family, especially UNO and Loteria.
Irma is survived by her loving husband, Carlos and her five daughters: Carmen, Xiomara, Karla, Iliana and Alyssa, as well as her grandchildren Natalia, Nohah and Omar, and other family and friends.
All who met Irma knew what a loving and giving person she was. She always wanted the best for her friends and family and for them to live up to their full potential. Although Irma will no longer be physically by our side she will be forever in our hearts.
