Arriving to the states of America, she became an accountant at San Jose State University and then transferred to Monterey California State University where she stayed until retirement at the age of 53. She volunteered at the women’s domestic shelter and devoted herself heavily into church, was part of the choir and the coordinator. In the midst of all her hard work she never strayed from God and family. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a devoted leader to the People Acting in Community Together (PACT). As a devout Catholic Christian she dedicated her time and effort not just in preaching the gospel but living it each and every day to the fullest.
She believed in equality and empowerment for those less fortunate. Even when times got rough and it was obvious that she was forced to struggle, she still put others first.
On top of raising her own children, she was like a second mother to many. She never refused her home to anyone, and she loved family gatherings, cooking, dancing and enjoying every second of her life. Although she was enjoying her time in the U.S., she never forgot her roots. She never forgot that she came from poverty, which made her modest, humble, and a gracious woman. She always made a point to give back to her family in the Philippines. Her tremendous capacity for love, words of wisdom, trutful advice and her warm bright smile was incomparable.
She instilled so much in her children. She was determined to make everybody around her happy and be at peace. Everything she did was heartfelt. The memory of Dolly lives on and will forever be in our Hearts.
