He was an aviator and during the Korean War served on Kodiak Island, Alaska and in Okinawa, Japan among other assignments, patrolling the Pacific watching for enemy subs. When his tour of duty was completed he enlisted in the reserves finally retiring in 1988 after almost 40 years of service. During a leave in Washington, he met and married Ann and they would spend the next 62 years together.
Jim received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from San Jose State and went on to earn his Masters from Santa Clara University. Jim and Ann settled in San Jose where Jim was employed with the City of San Jose as a Civil Engineer in the Traffic and Sanitary District Departments. During those years he and Ann raised their family and began a lifelong passion for remodeling and fixing up old houses. When he retired from the City of San Jose in 1986, they moved to Nevada City, CA where they purchased an old Victorian house, and immediately began restoring it from top to bottom. He went back to work for the County of Nevada in California as a Civil Engineer. He retired for the last time and moved back to San Jose to the family home where they continued their passion for remodeling.

He loved traveling, taking all of us on wonderful family vacations around the United States during the summer. He also enjoyed furniture restoration and repairing things around the house.
