James Michael Jim Hardy, 71, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Gilroy, California. Born on August 29, 1954, in San Luis Obispo, California, Jim lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, devotion to his family, and a deep love for sports and camaraderie. Jim grew up in Santa Maria and began his education at Joe Nightingale Elementary School, followed by Lakeview Junior High before attending Ernest Righetti High School. A gifted athlete from a young age, he was a two-sport standout throughout high school and earned distinction as a varsity wrestler, taking second place in the state—a testament to his determination and competitive spirit. He was also the first Freshman to ever move up to wrestle in varsity at the time he attended. As well as wrestling he was also an official extremely gifted baseball player. His strength and dexterity seemed supernatural. Following high school, Jim pursued a career in the pipe trades through the UA Local 114 apprenticeship program. Over the next 51 years, he built an enduring legacy in the industry through hard work and unwavering commitment. His decades of service reflected not only technical skill but also integrity and pride in his work—qualities that earned him respect among peers and colleagues alike. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man who cherished life’s simple pleasures. He had a lifelong passion for sports—whether playing softball or baseball or enjoying rounds of golf with friends. He also found joy in fantasy football, where his competitive edge and strategic mind made him a formidable opponent season after season. At the heart of Jim’s life was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Sondra Hardy; his son, James Hatch; his daughter, Sarah Hardy; his sister Sally Ball and his grandson, Shawn Hardy. To them—and to all who knew him—he was more than just a husband or father; he was their rock, their guide, and their greatest champion. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Ball; his father, Charles Irven Hardy; his step father Raymond Corky Ball, and his brother, Charles Irven Hardy Jr and his two sons Jacob and Charles. May James Michael Jim Hardy’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him and strength to those who carry forward the values he embodied: loyalty, perseverance, and love without measure.
