Despite the struggles of the Korean War, Kay finished high school in Seoul before launching a career in music. She became a renowned singer of popular music in the 1950s in Korea and recorded one of the earliest Rock ‘n Roll albums in Korea.
In 1959, Kay married the late Charles (“Chuck”) Coker, Sr. She left behind a successful music career to devote her life to her family. Kay and Chuck were married for more than 32 years, before he passed away in 1991. They were blessed with three children, sons Charlie Jr., Scott and Joe. After Charlie Jr. went off to college in 1979, Kay re-entered the work force, ultimately joining IBM Computers until her retirement shortly after Chuck’s passing. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling (especially her trips to Korea and Europe with Mrs. Bondi), shopping, Korean pop music and Korean TV soap operas, as well as her dog “Mickey”. Kay was called to eternal rest on March 16, 2016. She will be missed by all who knew her. Kay leaves to cherish her memory her loving sons Charlie, Scott and Joe, sisters Hyun-ja and Kyung-Ja, grandchildren Alexander, Amanda, Briar and Jordan, nieces Michelle and Shelly, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
