

Leon Evans - age 81, born in Hazel Valley, Arkansas on June 28, 1935 passed away after a short illness on July 18, 2016 in Redwood City, CA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Inez R. Evans. Loving father of Lee and Karen Evans, Loving stepfather of Tony, Alex, Bert, Barney, Ted, Cindy and Kathy Avlakeotes, Loving stepfather of Joe and John Davi. Loving grandfather of many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Leon is survived by his sister, Mae LaRosa of Modesto, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 1977, his sister Dorothy in 1975, and his stepdaughter Patricia.
Mr. Evans was brought to California when he was two years old and raised in San Jose, California. His two sisters were born in San Jose. He finished high school and attended some college classes before entering the work force in San Jose. During his school years, he worked summers at the San Jose Country Club, Holland Creamery, Happy Market, and the CPC Pickle Company. Over the years, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and mechanic, was a full time California National Guard mechanic, and was enlisted in the Guard for twelve years completing his service with the rank of SFC. He worked for the U.S. Army Reserve full time as a mechanic for eight years and as Shop Supervisor for seventeen years. The last four years, he supervised a shop facility in San Jose and a shop facility in Fort Ord, California. Mr Evans retired in 1991 to enjoy time with his wife, Inez, traveling, fishing and enjoying his family and children.
Memorial services in the Chapel of Roses at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, California on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at 1:30pm with reception to follow at St. Francis Episcopal Church 1205 Pine Ave, Willow Glen.
