Mommy,
The days have come. Today, we are scheduled to go see you and check on how you are made up. Finger crossing that you will look as beautiful as how you did prior to your departure. Then, tomorrow, we will all gather at Chapel of Roses to see you the last time up-close & personal.  Saturday will be the hardest... you will be laid to rest in the hill of Oakhill. It's better sweet thinking that you will be side-by-side with Dad... that Dad is no longer lonely there.  You'll be closer to Ông Cố & Bà Ngoại also. You all can have a little party going.
It's almost 7 weeks and the pain has not lessened. I've been sleeping in your bed, one night was with Mylo...  I miss you so much and wish I could see you. 
I'm so drained and exhausted. I pray that I could hold up until after Saturday. So much need to be done and I am not capable of doing them all as how I used to be.
Anyway, I need to run now... Got to get ready for the day... Metal to petal!!!

Dear Grandma,

You were the greatest woman I’ve ever known. You were the most self-less, hard working and loving wife, mom and grandmother anyone could ask for. You loved fiercely and always put the needs of your family before your own. Even til the very end, you radiated such a kind and genuine spirit, and like you often said “everyone that meets you, loves you”. I mean, how could they not? You were always thinking of others and you knew how to make people feel special, cared for and seen. Your heart was as pure as they come.

You always said that you and I had a special bond because your grandma also took you in and raised you. I am so grateful to you for caring for me and Nicholas and raising us as your own for so many years. For 22 years, I slept with you every night as you confided in me and we bonded on a level that was so much more than just grandparent and grandchild. You were my best friend and I was yours, especially after Grandpa passed away. I will cherish every single memory together, whether it was waking up each morning and getting ready for school while watching Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood or helping you cook dinner while watching Wheel of Fortune together. You helped me with my schoolwork and even taught me how to drive. You encouraged me to be my very best and always loved and accepted me unconditionally, no matter how many times I failed or disappointed you.

I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without you. You were and will always be the best of me. I don’t think a day will ever pass that I won’t miss you, Grandma but I know you’re in heaven with Grandpa watching over us. Thank you for being the amazing, sweet and lovely person that you were.  Thank you for believing in me and supporting me in everything I do. But most importantly, thank you for truly loving me and teaching me how to love and care for others.

Rest easy Bà Ngoại, I’ll love you forever and always. I promise to honor your memory and make you proud… Until we meet again 🖤

You are so resilient and have unwavering care for all of us. You are truly remarkable and strong. 
After realizing that your health was declining, it hit me hard, but I did my best to keep a positive attitude when you were around. Even after your passing, I’ll always know that you’ll be watching from up above.

I remember all the funny little moments we had on our trip to Vietnam. You were really strong, you walked miles and yet you would still keep on going, even though sometimes my siblings and I complained to you that we were tired. Your memory is very sharp, you can remember a lot of things from a long time ago and I think that that is so impressive. It’s hard to stay strong during this difficult time, and I know you would really like to see us smile instead of being sad and to be here for one another. 

I am so sad that you are not here with us anymore, but I know that by keeping our core memories in our minds and your love for us near, we will feel you within our hearts. I miss you grandma and I love you.

Dear Grandma, 

I have been trying to sit with the feelings of love and loss since before you passed, and I’ll admit, it hasn’t been easy. I am so sorry for all of the pain that you experienced that I didn’t understand. I know you’re in a better place now, and you’re feeling peace finally. I want to say thank you for everything that you’ve done to take care of me, Amy and Steven. Thank you for always remembering to pick us up from school. Thank you for reminding me to practice piano, and for standing in the hallway when I was procrastinating. Thank you for providing us with a safe place to play and be carefree as children, and for always opening up your home to us. Thank you for the acts of kindness and love that I don’t remember. I hope you are happy now. I love you.

Hello Mommy,
Today is exactly 4 weeks since you took your last breaths and left us in dismay. I remember even Mylo was grieving for you on that day; he went and sat on your tummy... but you could no longer feel the pain,
Lately, Mylo comes into your bed more often now. One day, I was working at the table by the windows, I heard Mylo on your bed, I turned around and found him lying next to the pillow that I dressed it with your nightgown. He rested his head on the pillow where your tummy would be; and he looked so sad with tears swelled up in his eyes.
Again today, he went right onto of the pillow and lied there for over 30 minutes. I came by to talk to him and showed him your photo on my phone. He stared at the photo without blinking his eyes for a good 10 minutes.
He once again made me sob like a baby. I miss you so so much, Mommy. You're everywhere in my existence. Evey little thing reminds me of you. All my being is wrapped around you and your absence.
How am I supposed to go on. Mommy? Please let me know you're fine and completely free from all the earthly problems you once had to endure while you were still on this earth. That is the only way for me to continue to live my life as how it is supposed to be lived out.
Until next time, I'll be thinking of you often.

I love you grandma. May you rest in paradise with grandpa. I always remember that we would always go eat buffet but you would always love it when I give you massages and we would have our inside joke instead of going to buffet. You would always want bupffet. I’m going to miss you very much and please watch over all of us. Amen 🙏

Oh Mom, how I miss you so much. There’s not a day that goes by that I am not thinking of you. All the wonderful times we spent together. I still vividly recall that year when I shared a bed with you after Dad passed away, how we would embrace and console each other throughout the night. I miss you crying on my shoulders. I miss the adventures we embarked on while I was living in Southern California. The trips to the vineyard to purchase two goats, the shared joy of picking blood oranges, and the moments when I dropped you off at your brother's house in Costa Mesa before heading to work.

Oh Mom, an emptiness resides in my heart now. Over the past three years, you and I spoke to each other nearly every day. At around 4:30 pm, I'd leave work, call you on my speed dial, and you would surely answer with your familiar greeting, "Ai do, co toi day." Some days, when my schedule got hectic and I couldn't call you on my way home, you'd call me, playfully saying, "Hey, someone forgot to call me." Now, as I drive home, I would look at my phone, see your name, and yearn to call you, even though I know you won't answer.

Oh Mom, I am deeply grateful for the extensive time we spent together and for the memories we created. Yet, I can't help but feel regret. I wish I could have given you more of my time, hugged you even more. Thank you for being the best mother you could be. Now, you are at peace, free from the burdens of the world. I miss you dearly, I love you, Mommy.

To my grandma, my bà ngoại,

I am so happy I got to spend time with you. We don’t just have the memories from when we were little kids swimming in your pool and sleeping over, but we have so many more new ones that I will continue to tell people who ask me about you. I will tell them of our weekly dinners over the pandemic in which you would always insist on helping to clear the table, wash the dishes, and cook. I’ll share how we walked, arm in arm, on the uneven streets of Vietnam, eating our weight in fried pork skin and fruit. I’ll laugh as I recall the time we went to Home Depot and you drove an electric wheelchair scooter into a line of wheelbarrows making them fall like a line of dominos. I’ll show them pictures of our beautiful, sunny day picnics watching the Blue Angels fly at the beach and eating fish and chips whilst looking over San Jose. They’ll see how funny you looked all bundled up at the Golden Gate Bridge and how we took a wrong turn and ended up driving around the entire bay. I’ll joke around about how I pretended to suck on your feet as I massaged them, making our family laugh even in your last days. I cherish all of the time that we spent together. 

I always thought that you were invincible. And in that way, I feel guilty for taking your presence for granted. That you’d always be around. But you are. You are still here. Your spirit lives on in every life that you’ve touched.

And though I’m sad that you’re not here anymore, I’m reminded of you in whatever I do. I see you in the seniors that I work with in the workshops I help lead. I see you in the plants that grow everywhere. I see you whenever I see football, especially the 49ers, play on TV. I see you in the faces of my aunts and uncles. I see you in my mom and her cooking. I can even see you sitting in the audience for every show that I’m in. I see you and I will continue to see you forever and always.

I hope that you’re having so much fun in the casino in the sky,
