

Loren Meissner died with his wife, Peggy (Pritchard) and his family close. He leaves sons, Loren Jr of Oakland and Paul of San Jose, and daughter, Patricia of Fresno; a sister, Doris, 8 grandchildren, Paul, Peter, Rachel, Karl, Anthony, Nicholas, Christian, and Sophia, and one great-grandchild, Paolo.
Born in Los Angeles and attending school in Eastvale and Corona, CA, he earned his AB and PhD in Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 1949 and 1965. In between he began his career as a pioneer in computer programming languages at the National Bureau of Standards in Norco and moved to northern CA permanently in 1959 where he worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory until 1982 when he was appointed professor at University of San Francisco. Throughout his career authored many Computer Science text books, won numerous Research and Teaching awards and led international programming standards bodies while avidly trekking in the Sierra, and serving as an adult Scout leader. Retiring in 1994, he moved to San Jose in 2003 to be close to his grandchildren who he actively loved, mentored, and hugged until his fall in 2019.
Services begin at 9:30 am, Friday July, 15 at Willow Glen Funeral Home, 1039 Lincoln Ave, with Interment to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
