Manuel Ferreira

The funeral service will be held at 9:00 am on March 25, 2021 at Oak Hill Funeral Home, 300

Curtner Ave in San Jose. Father Arthur and Henry Hanalei Lopez will be officiating. Visitation

and memorial service will be held at 9:00 am at Oak Hill. Burial will follow the funeral service at

Oak Hill Rose Lawn at 11:15 am. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Oak Hill Funeral

Home.

Manuel was born in Kamuela on the Big Island of Hawaii on December 12, 1934. He graduated

from Honokaa High School in 1952. He served with the National Guard.

Manuel was married to Helene Medeiros on July 14, 1956. They were married 34 years and

later divorced. Manuel worked as a butcher for Food Villa Grocery Store for 35 years and

retired at 55 years of age.

Manuel was a beloved father, uncle and grandfather. He had an ingenius zest for life and

enjoyed doing many things with his loved ones. He was a master gardener who could graft and air layer trees; grow bonsai. He loved growing giant Sunflowers for all of his grandchildren. Manuel was an accomplished artist who’d spend hours perfecting Spencerian, Gothic and Italic Calligraphy as well as oil and watercolor paintings. Manuel was a master chef enjoying old style Hawaiian and Portugese dishes.

Manuel was actively involved in Five Wounds Portugese National Parish, POSSO (Portuguese Organization for Social Services and Opportunities) and IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting).

Manuel is survived by sister Florence Anderson; children Kathy Azevedo, Mark Ferreira, Debbie

Welch, Karen Martinez, Michele A Gutierrez and Richard Ferreira; grandchildren Jessica

Azevedo, Andrea Azevedo, Bridget Reyes, Frances Martinez, George Martinez Jr, Mariah

Gutierrez-Truscott, Caleb Gutierrez and great grandchildren Elvis, Angelina and Jordan Reyes

and George Martinez Jr III. Manuel is preceded in death by sisters Edith Morgado, Ethel Rawlins and brother Gilbert Ferreira and grandson Lucas Gutierrez.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to POSSO 1115 East Santa Clara St, San
