Maria de Sousa Dos Santos passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at 1:37am in San Jose, California surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on August 27, 1932 in Manadas, Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal to Artur and Adriana Azevedo de Sousa. Maria met the love of her life, Mario Dos Santos, while he was working on a ship in Manadas. They were married at the Chapel of Guadalupe in Manadas and shortly thereafter they started their family. Maria and Mario Dos Santos had eight children who were all born in Manadas. They are Emanuel, Rosa (deceased), Fatima, Rosa Maria, Lucilia, Graca, Aida and Francisco. After several years, they moved their family to Velas, Sao Jorge where Mario was called to work. In 1977, Maria and Mario and their youngest son, Francisco immigrated to the United States to join their eldest children, Emanuel and Fatima who were already living in Rhode Island. In 1986, Maria moved to San Jose, California to join her daughter Lucilia and her family. Maria would spend the remainder of her life in San Jose where she dedicated her life to caring for others including her husband, children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren had the privilege of being raised and nurtured by her and her loving ways. As the matriarch of the Dos Santos family, she was loved and respected by all that had the privilege to know her. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and entertaining. She always started a carafe of coffee for company visiting. She enjoyed praying, sharing laughter, cooking and dressing up. Even in her later years, she enjoyed applying her blush and lipstick especially for random photo ops. She is survived by her children Emanuel Dos Santos (Leonor), Fatima Lisi (Anthony), Rosa Maria Mendonca (the late Luis), Lucilia Paz (the late Tonicha), Graca Freitas (the late Manuel), Aida Dos Santos (Ernesto Faustino) and Francisco Dos Santos, her sister Aida Sousa Bizarro, 14 grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Depois de vários anos, eles mudaram sua família para Velas, São Jorge, onde Mario foi chamado para trabalhar. Em 1977, Maria e Mario e seu filho mais novo, Francisco, imigraram para os Estados Unidos para se juntar a seus filhos mais velhos, Emanuel e Fátima, que já viviam em Rhode Island. Ela se mudou para San Jose, Califórnia, em 1986, para se juntar a sua filha Lucilia e sua familia. Maria passaria o resto de sua vida em San Jose, onde dedicou sua vida a cuidar de outras pessoas, incluindo seu marido, filhos e netos. Seus netos tiveram o privilégio de serem criados e nutridos por ela e seus modos amorosos. Como matriarca da família Dos Santos, ela foi amada e respeitada por todos que tiveram o privilégio de conhecê-la. Ela adorava estar rodeada de família e amigos e divertida. Ela sempre tinha uma cafeteira de café para a todos amigos. Ela gostava de rezar, de rir, cozinhar e se vestir. Mesmo em seus últimos anos, ela gostava de aplicar seu maquiagem e batom especialmente para fotos.
