A typical Saturday or Sunday morning if people happen to drive through Kintyre Way first entrance south of Rainbow, before the turn of the street, they would have noticed on the right a lady sitting on a small chair in front of her 3 circular plantation spots between her garage and the street, working on her flowers.   The weather is breezy and the Sun just rises.  She wear long pants and a faded blue navy shirt also with long sleeves.   What makes her noticeable are her colorful silk like white skirt and scarf with brilliant colors of egg size blue, purple and pink dots.    She usually work on her plants quietly with her back on the street.   However if a neighbor passes by and says hello, she would turn around with a full smile and her pleasant personality.   This is my first memory of Marylou and my best neighbor around the Kintyre block.  At this corner she taught me that I don't have to buy geranium from any shop.   All what I need to is to pick up some branches from other neighbors' trimmed out pile which is available weekend and picked up every Monday.   So far my front yard is mainly decorated with beautiful geranium flowers thanks to Marylou's low cost tip.

Marylou is enthusiastic with people and especially kind to my family.   When my mom came from China to visit, Marylou would meet with us in the McDonald at De Anza Blvd, greeting with my mom who does not know any English.   My memory of that lunch was quite pleasant.  I believe they enjoyed each other with other body gestures even without spoken language.  When my kids were small, she would bring a couple small boxes of cookies.   Inside my kids found various animal shapes - tiger, lion, alligator etc.   When my son went through his kindergarten, Marylou brought palm size word cards for my son to study.  Later on Marylou told us that she used to teach kindergarten and those were her teaching material.   I would want to type more but I guess I reach the word limit.   I will email a PDF file.  

After Marylou retired we would go on short outings which she reffed to as adventures. One Christmas season  Marylou, one of my  sisters, and I bought tickets that included a feast at what was Bonafontes Gardens .  It was bitter cold We were all bundled up, but the cold came through all the layers of clothes anyhow. Interestingly, we three seems to be the only people in this huge amusement park decorated with thousands of lights and Christmas decorations.  The buffet dinner was served in a huge tent with dozens of staff with trays of foods which appeared to us as a feast for royalty when we along with perhaps three others appeared to enjoy the food.  Marylou was dressed in an oversized trench coat lined with pockets and the inside where she had just about anything a person could want or need. We discovered this when she pulled out an umbrella which she brought just Incase.

    I am so sorry to hear of Marylou's passing. She enjoyed many good times with my late father, Jack Calvert, when they were young. She kept in touch with me over the years about our shared interest in family history. I enjoyed seeing her and especially talking about old memories of the family. Her positive outlook and cheerful manner always made these occasions joyful.
