Today you would have turned 62. I’ve been thinking about you all morning—Time keeps moving, but the space you left never really closes. 
I wish I could celebrate this day with you in person, but instead I celebrate you in memory—your humor, your stubbornness, your kindness, your overwhelming knowledge of "stuff". You’re still my brother, still part of my life, still loved beyond measure. Happy heavenly birthday. I hope you know how deeply you’re missed, and how fiercely you’re remembered.

Last memory was when we shared a beer early May.  Rob was such in great spirit sure do miss that guy.

Rob taught my dog Penny to sit in the kitchen while he hid her treats around the house, then he would let her go to hunt them down and he got the biggest kick out of watching her find all of his hiding spots, to this day she won’t let me leave in the morning until I hide her treats for her. We both miss ya buddy rest in peace

We were all shocked and so sad..
It`s exactly 50 years ago, that Iris did a student  exchange  and that´s how our friendship began. Your first  visit to Germany was in 1980 and so many visits followed with allmost all family members  .These  are wonderful memories in Europe and America too.
You will stay in our hearts forever!

I can´t believe it and im still shocked. I got to knew Rob through my dad. He was a very good friend of my dad and of my whole family also. Everytime Rob was in Germany me and my brothers had so much fun with him. We have always tried many sports games and Rob was our teacher. After my bachelor's degree i visited rob for the first (and last...) time in California. San Jose, San Franciso, Santa Monica, Yosemite-Nationalpark, several visits to golf courses, etc. - the list of activities is long.  In conclusion I would like to say that this trip was my best so far - maybe forever...

We met at the Gunkel family in the early 80's and had an incredibly fun family vacation in Spain. Whenever you were in Germany we met up. During your last visit I promised, that I would give up smoking. You hated it so much. Now I have kept my promise and you won't experience a smoke-free Essi anymore. 
One day we will meet again and swim through foreign pools at night. I am so sad. I wish you peace and fulfillment.  So long...


I got to know Rob on a trip to Spain in 1982. Regardless of the fact that Rob was only 5 days younger than me, our similar stories and experiences as children also allied us on this holiday.  This was followed by an intensive pen pal, which reduced the wide spatial distance between us. Whenever possible, we visited each other. Also our honeymoon to California, you had sweetened us with some surprises. We always had a lot of fun together and I will miss you Rob very much. One day, however, we will meet again, I'm sure...   
Until then, do it well, wherever you are

I wanted to reach out to everyone who shared their love and memories of Rob with our family through this site, at his service, and during the celebration of life with more stories afterward. 
You have all touched our hearts by sharing a piece of our brother  we did not know (except for the wine part), in a way we can never THANK YOU all enough.  For those of you who could not make it, please know we appreciate your calls, cards, and prayers.  In our hearts, we believe he is in a better place.  Hug your families a little tighter every day. I knew Rob from Del Mar and we had some awesome times.  Couple years later I was helping open up a family shop in Maui and in comes walking Rob, sun bleached hair, no shirt and totally tanned, it was a wonderful surprise and great relief since I knew no one.  Kevin Johnston, Susha and me would hang out on the corner of my shop eating ice cream shaved ice nearly every afternoon. Local five-o pulled up on once told us to keep moving since it was an area known for buying dakine. The look on their faces when I told them this was my shop, we just busted up laughing. I’m glad we got to reconnect have beers and talk stories. I will truly miss you and never forget you Rob, I wish you didn’t leave us so soon. May you rest in eternal peace. Love you my brother 

I met Rob when I was in 7th grade at Monroe. He flew in and out of my life, but it always felt like no time had passed when we got together. I'm sorry I didn't make more time to get together with him.  This was the one of the times we got together in 2018.   I wish I had taken a picture every time.  Deepest condolences to the Susha family.

Rob and I spent a lot of time in the last couple of years together and this comes as a shock, Rob was the most adventurous person I knew and adored his time outside, we did some memorable road trips recently and enjoyed the time together, he left too soon and will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences go out to his family.

This is truly a shock. I have known Rob since the 4th grade at Monroe Elementary. We spent many great memories together. Way to many to mention. Just saw him last year at our old Tahoe home. So glad to see him.May God be with his spirit and guide him to a good place. So sorry we did not spend more time together in our later life. Lots of love your way brother.
