daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and pet mom. Roberta, also fondly called
“Berta,” was an incredibly special woman who was known for her sense of
humor, contagious joy, and the intense love she showed to all of her family
and friends. She truly had a heart of gold and always put others before
herself.
Roberta was born in Terceira, Acores, Portugal and immigrated to the USA
from Brazil in 1974 with her parents and siblings. She earned an Associate of
Arts (AA) degree in General Studies from Evergreen Valley College in 1995.
She worked in Warehousing at Western Servo Design, and then in Inventory
Control at All American Semiconductor for nearly a decade until 2007.
Roberta completed additional college courses at De Anza College, and
became a devoted full-time caregiver for both of her aging parents. She
always enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, and cherished
celebrating holidays and birthdays.
Roberta loved the color blue, listening to techno and pop music, making and
enjoying good food, cross-stitching, the ocean, all animals (especially cats
and dogs), and the Oakland A’s. She also had an affinity for cool cups, pens,
and the latest office accessories. Berta was often found joking around with
her family members, or putting together special gifts for her nieces and
nephews. She adored her pets, and loved to donate to the SPCA.
Roberta is survived by her mother Nilza Dias; siblings Cidalia Azevedo
(John) of Gilroy, Lina Aguilar (Gabe) of San Jose, John Carlos Dias (Sara) of
Australia, Marina Maciel (Paulo) of San Jose, and Danny Dias (Silvia) of
Milpitas, fifteen nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, and
her precious dog Bella. She is preceded in death by her brother, Paulino
Roberto Dias, her father, John da Rocha Dias, and her beloved cat Smokey.
Berta taught us how to laugh at ourselves and to find the humor in life. She
will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
